Overview of Estepona
With over 300 days of sunshine each year, Estepona really is the ideal place to spend your breaks all year round, and the town is only a 10 minute drive. Here you will find a variety of fantastic food and drinks, all in stunning locations whether it be in the picturesque cobbled streets of Estepona Old Town or the hustle-and-bustle of the Port.
You won't be short of things to do either, as there is something for everyone! Estepona is known as "The garden of the Costa del Sol" due to the amount of colourful flowers that line the streets of the town.
Each street has a designated colour for it's flower pots, so why not spend your time exploring. You'll find some fantastic boutique stores, and exquisite tapas bars on your walk! There's even an organised electric scooter tour of the town. As for beaches, you wont struggle to find golden sand in Estepona. The coastline is full of amazing places to lay your towel and soak up the sun, and once you are done, the chiringuitos are the ideal place to sit down and enjoy a cold drink.
If golf is your thing, then your in luck too as there is no shortage of perfectly maintained golf courses in this area.
Weekly markets, paragliding, fishing trips or dolphin watching, Estepona has it all.
Local Interest
Puerto Banus
Puerto Banus is located around 30 kilometres east of Estepona and is home to a large selection of designer shopping stores, a beautiful marina with space for over 900 boats, a handful of luxury bars/restaurants, and a world-renowned nightlife scene.
Known as Costa del Sol’s playground for the rich and wealthy, Puerto Banus welcomes around 5 million people per year, including (regularly) famous stars from all over the world. It is a great place to sit back and enjoy watching the world go by, as you are driven past by the most beautiful sports cars, and look out to the most exquisite yachts in the marina (including the one owned by the King of Saudi Arabia!).
On Sundays the Puerto Banus market opens and stretches up the hill with market stalls galore. Here you can find a variety of items from the freshest fruit and vegetables, to textiles and traditional Spanish gifts. Why not give this a try and see if you can negotiate yourself a bargain?
When you are finished at the market, we recommend a visit to the restaurant La Sala, situated just on the roundabout at the bottom of the hill. A party atmosphere, with great food and drinks is the perfect way to cap the Puerto Banus experience.
Gibraltar
Around 50 kilometres further south you will find Gibraltar, and the famous Rock of Gibraltar, standing a very impressive 426 metres high. On the rock there are a number of paths and places to explore, including a suspension bridge up from which the views are incredible. Getting to the top is easy for those who don’t wish to do the climb, or prefer to relax and look out over the coastline, thanks to the cable car which runs regularly. Don’t forget to look out for the local monkeys that live there!
Within Gibraltar, you will also find a selection of British stores and restaurant chains which may be of use during your stay including Morrisons and Wagamama. Luxury casino’s, bars and restaurants are all located on the waterfront and can be accessed easily.
Benahavis
Benahavis is located only 30 kilometres from Estepona, and is a must visit destination for any food lover as it has the highest concentration of high class restaurants in the region. It also includes the extremely popular Benahavis Cookery School (Escuela Hostelería), where you can sample a set menu prepared by the best trainee chefs in the area. Be sure to book, because spaces are never available for long.
The village itself is based in the mountains, with beautiful views and stunning, traditional winding streets. These are not great for cars, which is great as it means Benahavis is a perfect place to park up and explore by foot easily.
If you have an adventurous side, Benahavis is a great place to go canyoning (a combination of walking, swimming, jumping, sliding down the water channels, abseiling and scrambling the river canyon). During the experience you will descent down breathtaking scenery of waterfalls, natural plunge-pools with crystal water, where you will have to abseil over waterfalls, jump and slide into pools, scrambling and climbing over boulders, and down gullies following the gorge as it snakes its way down the mountainside. A truly memorable experience.
